About the Event

A 21-day comprehensive training in the fundamental theory and practice of Earthbag (Superadobe) building technique.

In the wake of the Spring 2015 earthquakes in Nepal, there is a great need for the rebuilding of houses and schools using earthquake resilient techniques. This January, Woven Earth will be hosting our fifth service-learning comprehensive workshop on Superadobe (earthbag) construction including certification. During this workshop, we will build housing for the Rainbow Children’s Home Orphanage & Organic Farm near Pokhara, in Pame village. This home will provide shelter for homeless and mentally ill people in the community. In traditional Hindu society, its often that homeless and mentally ill people are neglected and blamed for their own issues. This will be a space for those shunned individuals to rest their heads, get clean, find a warm meal, and survive the storm. This course will teach you the fundamentals of earthbag and earthen construction. Learn a variety of techniques like waddle and dob, cob, and earth bottle. We will give you the fundamentals s of passive/active solar design, grey water, Phytoremediation, and watson wick septic. You will get hands on and see how these systems are constructed and maintained! This is a 127-hour course with a certificate. You will draft your own design with a team and take a test on the foundations of building to receive a certificate. Leave the course having gained valuable skills that will serve you and others for a lifetime!
